Mental health is often overlooked in Nigeria, even though millions of people live with conditions like depression, anxiety, and stress-related disorders. Many suffer in silence due to stigma, misinformation, or lack of access to mental health services.
At HEALS, we believe that mental health is just as important as physical health. A healthy mind supports a healthy life, and no one should feel ashamed to seek help. It is estimated that one in four Nigerians will experience a mental health issue at some point in their life, yet there are very few psychiatric professionals and centers to meet the growing need.
Common causes of mental distress in our communities include unemployment, financial hardship, family conflict, trauma, and social isolation. Unfortunately, rather than receiving professional help, many individuals turn to harmful coping mechanisms or face discrimination.
We aim to change that through awareness, advocacy, and community education. By teaching people how to recognize early signs of stress and depression, encouraging open conversations, and connecting those in need with the right support systems, we can build more compassionate and understanding communities.
Mental health care is self-care. Let’s all help reduce stigma and promote kindness, understanding, and access to care for those who need it most.
Live Right. Stay Healthy.
